Battletanx Global Assault - ":Global Assault" is the second game in the series, developed and published by 3DO. It was released for the Nintendo 64 on August 31, 1999. A PlayStation port was later released on February 29, 2000.
The sequel significantly expanded the game of the series. Several new tanks have been added, as well as some new power-ups and game modes. New factions make their appearance, with some returning from the previous game. The number of playable maps has also increased, now including locations in Europe.

The year is 2006, five years after the X-2 virus unleashed the apocalypse. Griffin Spade managed to save his wife Madison from the clutches of several gangs in America. Both now rule the city of San Francisco, with Madison as queen. They also have a son, Brandon, who is unusually intelligent and active for his age. Together they hope to rebuild a civilization in the midst of destruction.

Recently, however, Griffin dreams about a queen he's sure he's seen before. His instincts show that this is more than a nightmare, and his family is now in danger. Soon he will reveal the truth of a threat greater than any before him.
Global Attack basically plays like its predecessor. Players choose from a total of 12 different factions to play as, each with a different army of tanks and starting power-ups. They are involved in a variety of different game types against computer-controlled armies or other players.
The global invasion campaign is divided into 18 separate missions (plus one secret mission). Like the previous game, many of the objectives involve defending specific objectives, destroying all enemies on the map, or successfully crossing a bridge. There are now objectives that involve destroying specific enemies or structures and escorting convoys to their destination.
Instead of a fixed amount of lives during the game, you can now choose your tank by spending tank resources. They can be found throughout the campaign and are also awarded for every 10,000 points you score. Each tank costs a certain amount of tank bucks, and if you can't pay it, it's game over. Not all tanks are available immediately, and some are only available in multiplayer.

Global Assault also lets you campaign in co-op with a friend (only 1 other, though). It works almost like the same player, the main difference is that all tank boxes are shared.
